Air Conditioner Circuit Boards

Al appliances that use electricity and electronics for its functionality has a circuit board embedded. A printed circuit board or PCB mechanically supports and electrically connects electronic components using conductive tracks, pads and other features etched from copper sheets laminated onto a non-conducive substrate. The general components of a circuit board include the capacitors, resistors, and other active devices. The advanced PCBS might contain components embedded in the substrate. The PCBS available can be single sided, double sided, or multi layered.

Just like all other electrical and electronic appliances even air conditioners have circuit boards. However, due to the complexity of the system, the circuit board of an air conditioner is quite complex. But it is a matter of concern when the circuit boards of air conditioners stop functioning. When such a thing happens there will be no electricity conduction into the appliance and it will not be able to function.

There are several reasons as to why the circuit in the circuit board of air conditioners trip. They are the following:

Dirty air filter: When the filters of the air conditioner are dirty the blower has to work harder to produce similar amount of cold air. As a result it draws in more electricity and that makes the circuit breaker trip.

Dirt outside Unit: When the outside unit is dirty, the AC goes on running trying to disperse the heat outside. As a result of this too much electricity is drawn causing the circuit breaker to trip.

The circuit breaker may trip when there is issue with the breaker itself like loosened wires and a bad breaker. Besides, some of the other problems that might peril a circuit breaker include motor has shorted, the compressor has trouble starting or the compressor is grounded.

However, when there is problem with the circuit board of the air conditioner, a better solution is to repair it instead of replacing it completely. The benefits of repair over replacement are the following:

The repair can be completed at a lower cost than the replacement of the same. This is because buying a new circuit board will obviously be costlier than repairing the existing one.

Sometimes the warranty of the new circuit board is not as much as expected. In fact, sometimes it is shorter than the warranty given on a repaired circuit board, hence, it is always better to spend on the repair than on the replacement.

It is possible that the motor of the air conditioner has broken down, in that case even the new circuit board which will be installed will be damaged. On the other hand, if the circuit board is repaired it is easier to detect the problem.

In case of incorrect diagnosis, contractors emphasis on the replacement of circuit boards even if the new circuit board has broken down just after installation. This is done in order to cover up for the cost of the new board.

Sometimes HVAC contractors try to replace an existing circuit board with an obsolete model. As a result of which there may be short circuits damaging the entire unit. On the other hand, if the circuit board would have been repaired, such a thing would not have occurred.
